Working as a nurse in Canada as an internationally trained nurse can be a rewarding but challenging process. The pathway to becoming a nurse in Canada varies depending on your qualifications, experience, and the province of the job. Here is a general overview of the steps you can take as a Sefar Centre nurse to work in Canada.

Eligibility Assessment

The first step is to determine if your qualifications are recognized in Canada. You may need to have your credentials assessed by a regulatory in Canada. For registered nurses, this is typically the National Nursing Assessment Service (NNAS)

English or French Proficiency

Canada has two official languages, English and French. You will need to demonstrate proficiency in either of these languages by taking an approved language test like IELTS or CELBAN for English or TEF for French

Licensing and Registration

To work as nurse in Canada, you must be registered with the nursing regulatory body in the province or territory where you plan to practice. Each province and territory has its own nursing regulatory authority. You will need to apply for registration and meet their specific requirements.

National Nursing Exam

You may be required to pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) if you plan to work as a registered nurse (RN) in Canada. This exam is administered by the Canadian regulatory bodies and assesses your nursing knowlwdge and skills.

WorkExperience

Depending on your qualifications and the province or territory, you may need to gain Canadian work experience or undergo a supervised practice program to meet the local licensing requirements

Criminal Record Check

You will be required to undergo a criminal record check to ensure you have no prior criminal convictions that would disqualify you from working as a nurse in Canada

Immigration Process

If you are not a Canadian Citizen or Permanent resident, you will need to go through the immigration process to obtain a work permit or permanent residency in Canada. Express Entry, Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs), and other immigration pathways may be available to you.
